Paintings

Judy’s artwork focuses on food, animals, people, and beautiful spaces. Kennedy states, “I focus on capturing a mood in my artwork then express it with light, color, poses, and textures to capture the personality of my subject whether it be food, animals, people, or landscapes. I try to conjure up memories and feelings you personally have experienced and mix them with a picturesque fantasy of future adventures you may want to explore.”

Still Life:

Life’s Pleasures: Large acrylic paintings on canvas featuring food, wine and flowers in the foreground against scenic landscapes in the background. Judy plays with perspective and colors to intensify the contrast between the light and shadow areas in an idyllic, blissful setting. Inspired by the Beautiful Cookbook series.

Farm to Forks: Small acrylic paintings on 4” x 4” Gesso tile board featuring forks set in different table settings. Kennedy says, “The inspiration for this series grew when Sacramento became the ‘Farm to Fork Capital’. The painting’s focus is on the utensil used for eating and tying this common but intimate object with the art of culinary pleasure in an almost jewel-like depiction.”

Other: (We can add images of artwork that isn’t connected to a body of work.) Like the large mural

Landscapes:

Postcards from My Travels: This series started from a commission Judy was asked to do for a label company. The boutique labels depict scenes from Europe made for large tomato cans marketed to restaurants. “It started as a job then morphed into a series. I love to travel whenever possible so it was a natural progression to paint scenes from my own trips.” says Judy.

View from my Window: This series is inspired by Judy’s travels. Scenic views through windows gives the viewer a point of perspective and a sense of place. Judy states, “Painting straight forward landscapes is somewhat tedious for me. I prefer to place something in the foreground or view the scene through a window that provides a voyeuristic quality.”

Seascapes: (Rob note that I don’t have any named bodies of work for this subcategory)

Painting scenes that depict water can test the skills of any artist. Trying to portray the power of moving water through waves, ripples and currents, respecting the transparency of the subject while capturing the reflections of objects and light on the surface is a challenge Judy accepts and relishes. Judy says, “I love being near water as many people do. It is so nurturing and calming for me. Beaches, rivers, lakes, I love them all and hope to share that love through my artwork.”

Portraiture:

Equus: This series of large acrylic paintings on canvas depict portraits of people with their horses. Inspired by the photographs of Yam Arthus-Bertrand. Lots of detail showing breed and custom tack. Judy states, “I wanted to paint a romanticized mood focusing on the relationship between humans and their horses. How horses are used in different parts of the world and the breeds that flourish there fascinates me.”

Portraits: Not a series but this sub-category shows examples of portraits Judy has done. Some are of people that have commissioned work, some are self-portraits of the artist or her family members. “I love painting individual people, it is the biggest test of my talent. I think that painting people is the most difficult subject to portray, and painting a portrait of a specific person capturing both their personality as well as their physical features is even more difficult. A challenge that I find rewarding.”
